Columbus Technical College seeks a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as the Program Director for Biology-related courses and programs. This full-time position requires a dynamic leader to oversee all aspects of course and program development and instruction, and is responsible for coordinating departmental faculty under the direction of the college administration. The role includes administrative leadership, student evaluation, classroom, and laboratory instruction. Additional duties include attending staff development training, workshops, seminars, conferences, and advisory committee meetings, and completing mandatory staff development training. This is a full-time/exempt position.

  1. May be required to teach high school students
  2. May require teaching on or off campus throughout our service delivery area (Muscogee County, Stewart County, Quitman County, Chattahoochee County, Harris County, and Talbot County)
  3. May require travel

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates activities with division program directors, AVPAA/Dean, and other administrators as part of the Academic Leadership Team; makes expeditious and sound decisions on issues related to the performance of duties and responsibilities within the position’s authority and the organizational structure of the college;
  • Supervises and provides support to faculty as designated within the organizational structure of the college; orders books and materials for effective delivery for coursework; ensures adherence to faculty work schedules and office hours; observes and documents effectiveness of adjunct faculty; ensures administration of and reviews semester course evaluations by students;
  • Works with AVPAA/Dean and Human Resources to coordinate faculty hires in designated areas; verifies appropriate faculty qualifications;
  • Works with departmental faculty in the curriculum review process; recommends curriculum changes to AVPAA/Dean;
  • Prepares all semester and annual program/course scheduling for programs under assigned supervision; ensures compatibility with other program areas where applicable; ensures appropriate faculty loads;
  • Assists faculty in addressing all aspects of verifying program learning outcomes, including identification, review, revision, measurement, and analysis of said outcomes;
  • Works to ensure the consistent exercise of academic policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and other criteria or guidelines;
  • Reviews budgets under assigned supervision with departmental faculty; ensures departmental faculty adherence to budget and purchasing requirements;
  • Participates in the enrollment processes, including advisement and registration;
  • Oversees the development, review, and revision of course syllabi;
  • Orients new faculty on college policies and procedures; assigns faculty mentors as appropriate;
  • Assists faculty in the attainment and continuance of program-specific accreditation
  • Compiles department and program statistics;
  • Reports to AVPAA/Dean any faculty absences, student grievances and appeals, and other matters; participates in the student academic appeal process;
  • Coordinates catalog reviews for courses and programs under assigned supervision;
  • Facilitates procurement of program/course equipment and supplies;
  • Teaches courses within the department; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in the teaching discipline

  • A Master’s degree in a related discipline with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours/27 graduate quarter hours in the teaching discipline, NOT Education courses)
-OR-
  • Possess an advanced degree as a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.)
  • Three (3) or more years of full-time post-secondary teaching experience

Salary/Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include state holidays, annual leave, and sick leave, State of Georgia Retirement, Health and Flexible Benefits Program.
